lifestyle newborn session
Congratulations Mom and Dad! I am so honored that you are considering me as your photographer for this special time! Photography for me is about your story. It’s about real genuine moments together: smiles, laughter, love. It's about that look you give your husband as you two hold your first child. It’s about the joy you feel as you nuzzle that tiny nose. It’s about the way you melt as they slowly grip your finger. I feel so blessed to have the privilege to experience these little moments right alongside you and your family. This is why my newborn sessions are a lifestyle type of session. I do not have a studio so these sessions will take place in your home - the place you bring your child home for the first time!

the process
Contract and Deposit
We will decide on a date and time. Typically sessions will begin between 9-11AM. Once details are decided, a signed contract and 50% retainer will be required to book your session. I will send you a contract and invoice via email. You can sign and pay online! After I receive these two things, your time and date will be reserved! I understand it is unknown the exact date in which your baby will be born so, of course, this date is flexible.
The Session
My favorite part! We will meet in your home and go from there! Newborn sessions are a lot of feeding, snuggling and soothing then they are actually photographing. For this reason, the session will last about 2-3 hours.
Processing and Edits
I will go through your images from the session and select the best. The editing process takes 2-3 weeks. All photographs will be edited to photographer’s judgement. You will receive a mix of color and black and white images.
Delivery
You will receive a link to your online gallery where you can then download your photographs, which is yours to share! Be sure to save these photographs in a safe place on your computer and on the cloud because I will hold them for 1 year.
Products
You can use your online gallery to purchase prints, cards, albums or flash drives or you can take your digital photographs to print on your own. For recommendations just ask!
tips for your session
What to Wear: Mom and Dad
Compliment each other! You want to coordinate your outfits, but not necessarily match exactly. Light or neutral colors typically work best and fit the mood of a newborn session! Pay attention not only to color but also look at patterns, textures, the flow of fabrics etc. Textured fabrics photograph really well! Smaller patterns are better and more flattering than larger patterns. Photographing in your home lends itself to a more cozy, relaxed clothing! So mom, that means leggings are totally acceptable! Moms I recommend going slightly heavier on the make up because it really makes your face pop in photographs! If you are going to have painted nails try and paint them that day or the day before your session - chipped nail polish can be distracting or just rock the natural nail look without any polish! Keep your hair as natural as possible! You want to look like yourself! Dads Be sure to shave your face before your session, unless your style is to rock that beard then I recommend giving yourself a trim!
What to Wear: Baby
Typically for in home sessions the baby is either in their diaper, onesie or wrapped in a blanket/wrap. Be sure this outfit or blanket works well with yours! Simple onesies photograph best because you can still see that tiny body! If your outfits are more patterned, choose a solid onesie or wrap. If you are wearing a darker color, put baby in something lighter! If you have a headband or a hat keep it small and delicate!
What to Avoid
Avoid clothes with characters, writing, large logos or super bright colors. Keep in mind, colors can reflect color! A bright coral colored shirt can reflect a coral hue onto your faces causing the coloring to be off. For this reason I recommend wearing more toned down or muted colors. This is especially good for in home sessions!
Accessories and shoes
Keep it simple. Add in a bracelet, a fun ring or a necklace. Accessories can be fun and look great, but less is more especially in newborn sessions. We don't want to distract from baby! As for shoes, since these are typically indoors socks or bare feet are just fine. If you wear socks, make sure they are a neutral color and that they match!
Pick up your space
You just had a baby so no need to deep clean your house! Simply pick up areas where the lighting is best including areas like the living room, nursery and your bedroom. I can easily move things if needed!
Feed baby before session
Feed baby right before your session or as I am arriving! This helps baby stay calm and more sleepy! Usually we will do a mix of awake and asleep, but will go with the flow according to baby’s mood. Don’t be surprised if we need to take a break and feed multiple times - it’s very common!
